Hi there. Harlequin shrimp were at the top of my wish list from the moment I started a tank last year. I've done some reading, but was hoping for some firsthand experience.

I have two, that are both a pretty good size. How much do they eat? Should I throw in a live chocolate chip starfish and just let them do their thing? Or should I freeze starfish and throw in a leg every once in a while? How often should I feed in either case?

Second, I bought what was supposed to be a mated pair, but they're not hanging out together at all. One is substantially larger than the other, so it may be female, and the other male. Will they eventually link up if that's the case? I'd rather have a pair than two independent shrimp who may fight over food.

I have a Harley that I have had for over 2 years. He is the most expensive critter to feed in the house. he gets a whole Live Chocolate Chip about every 3 weeks some times 4 depending on the size of the star.I usually place the star on the other side of the tank from where he is at and he almost immediately starts the hunt. Kinda cool to watch. I got him when my tank had so many Asteras I could not see through the glass. a short a few months later most of them are gone.
