Have a fitness plan for your reef: What do you do to keep your aquascape in shape?
With all the conversations about taking care of ourselves and our reefs, let’s talk about the shape of our reef. I mean, the literal shape of our reefs. There are often questions about the physical layout and shape of our rock structure, but in a reef tank the rocks are often quickly covered with corals. Unless it is a FOWLR (fish-only-with-live-rock) tank, the shape of the aquascape changes as the tank fills in with corals and/or macro algae. A minimalistic rockscape can turn into pedestals for a dramatic reef scape and what looks like a random stack of rocks can be transformed into a dramatic display of corals. In contrast, the most intricate and carefully placed live rock can become overgrown and less-than-amazing without some care and attention. Please tell us what you do to manage or sculpt the shape of your aquascape as the corals grow and the tank matures.
