Curious about others experiences with a "Walking Dendro". I've had mine for about 6 months now and find it pretty fascinating. Loves to eat and roams the sand bed.

I have 2 heteropsammia cochleas (i think thats how its spelled) and they are awesome!! I was feeding them a lot at first and 1 started to split heads, it now looks like the whole thing might divide in 2, I'll get some pics tomorrow!

I've seen a couple but passed because I was worried about how big they may become....and that they'd sting other stuff.

Any ideas how big they get?

In the time I've had mine it hasn't grown very much although it does look like it may split soon, I'm not sure how big they can get. According to reefbuilders they were imported and introduced to hobbyists in late 2009 and I can find very little info on them.

Mine roams the bottom of the tank bumping into acans, chalices, GSP, mushrooms, zoas/palys...and has never stung anything.

my lfs has 2 for sale but ive never owned one

Does the LFS ship? Any idea what they're charging?

I haven't been able to find many as I'm looking to add another one or two and those I have were WAY more than I paid for mine.

Been a while, anyone else have one of these? Mine is still doing great, it stopped walking for a little while but it's back to roaming the sand bed!

I didn't kno they actually roamed the san. I may have to buy one and not tell the Gf about it so she thinks I am constantly moving it. Then when she sees it move shell bug out.

I have only seen these a handful of times at the same LFS.

They're pretty cool, I was thinking about getting a few more of them although you don't see them too often. It's one of the things in my tank my girlfriend actually enjoys. You can't actually see it move because it's pretty darn slow but you definitely notice that it's moved. I've seen mine go about 18" over the course of 24 hours or so.

I believe they have some worm that lives in the bottom that scoots them along if I'm not mistaken. There is a tiny hole in the bottom.

Yea, but no sting as far as I've seen! It really hasn't grown much since I posted the pic a while ago.

AquaSD just listed some on their 4/21/11 thread. 2nd post of the thread.

I believe those are Rhyzo's, very cool but they don't walk!

Yep, he gets a good variety of food. Eats a ton!

Should be no time then before it starts growing. I read up and a lot of people that were feeding regularly saw good growth...although maybe all the walking around he is exercising it off LOL.

I recently got one and I love it! I *think* it's moving. When I got it, I put it in one shaded spot in the middle of my tank and then a couple days later, my husband was like "what is that one, by the rock?" and I was like.. I don't have anything by the rock and it was there. It hasn't moved since, so I'm not sure if.. maybe a crab moved it or a strong current, idk but I'm hoping it was the worm. The store I bought it from was like "we can't guarantee a worm, so don't be disappointed if you don't get one" but I'm hoping!
