Was at Home Depot today, like always, and was looking at LED lighting. With all the customizable lights out there, I have been looking for something that might work on a reef. I started looking at outdoor spotlight/flood lights, and found some contenders, but ultimately I decided to give this a try:

Figured with the adjustability I could find something close to “reef spectrum”. . . And yeah, sort of works. Now the LEDs (maybe COB?) are RGB, so not sure what the gaps in spectrum will do but hey I’ll give it a shot.

Using 2 of them in place of my 3 fluvals. In person they appear to be just as bright or brighter when mounted at the same height, but I ended up having to mount them a little higher than I would’ve liked, might make a bracket, but for now we’ll see.

is the PAR the same/similar to what you had with the fluvals? or you haven't tested that yet?

I haven't tested. . . and have no way to test unfortunately.

But to the naked eye they are the same or brighter (depending on the settings)

Heres a photo comparison:

3X Fluval Marine nano's at my normal settings:

1X Fluval Marine nano at normal settings on the left and 1X Color Caster at a similar color temp on the right:

Keep in mind that for the other picture I posted the light is mounted higher and has everything but blue dialed back a bit.

I would be curious to see how coral would be affected by Home Depot light over a couple of days. Neat experiment none of the less!
