Plan on going bare bottom on my cube and would like to place some HDPE on the bottom to protect the glass. From what I understand, I will need the marine grade and would prefer it in sandshade.

I found a place called "Plastic on Demand" online, but they want $20 for shipping a $60 piece of plastic (Roughly 27.25"x27.25"x0.5").

I've searched locally and they all want $120+

Thanks in advance!

Try eBay or www.eplastics.com
You can also probably get by with 1/4" or 3/8" thick unless your tank is very large/deep, the viscosity of water slows any falls and lessens their impact a fair amount.

I used 1/4" and it is more than thick enough. Even 1/8" would do the job if it's available.

I bought from boatoutfitters.com twice now and was very satisfied. Decent price and good quality. I bought the $10 sample pack before my first order. I brought it to some local LFS and the "seafoam" color was the closest match to aragonite sand. I ended up going with black both times myself.
