Ok so I know it may have been discussed before n I think I asked at one point.....
I have a mixed reef
At what temp water should I start to worry n do something ta start cooling....
I normally keep my tank around 80
Yest was pushin 86.5
I know to float bagged ice run fans etc..
I'm more wondering when to start doin it...
I would imagine 90 would be pushing it...

I've heard 84-86 is kind of the danger zone. I have my heater set to 76, yet during the day my tank hits 82 usually. My home AC is set to 71 all day, so it's a bit mind boggling.

I would definetly take action if I was reaching anywhere over 83F.. I keep my tank at 78F(the universally recommended temp)

You'll definetly want to invest in a chiller

It depends on what you are keeping. Most corals will be fine in the low to mid-80s. If you look at coral reef temperatures around the world, they're often in these ranges (which is also why I think 78 is too low). This summer, my tank has been running around 85. I haven't seen any ill effects until I get past 87, and then it was only one or two corals looking stressed.

For what to do, I run an ac in the room with the tank, but it only runs when it gets in the mid-80s. On hot days, I open the cabinets to my sump so there's lots of air flow and the ac is pointed in that direction. If it gets above 85, I turn off my skimmer and any reactor pumps. This usually stops the heat rising.

I'm in Arizona and trust me when I say it gets hot here over 115 degrees easy in the summer, I keep my house AC at 80 when I'm not home and a little fan blowing on the top of the tank (Rimless) keeps the tank temp about 78-79 which is perfect for me. If my tank was at 84 degrees I would definitely be doing something about it.
