Two days ago I turned off the heater because I noticed it had detached from the back wall so I turned it off to reattach it and me being the idiot I am forgot to turn it back on. I just realized my mistake and turned the heater back on, do I need to slowly bring the tank back up to regular temperature or can I just let the heater bring it back up? It was at 70 degrees, normally it's 78.

How big of a tank and what wattage of heater? If the heater is properly sized (and the tank isn't tiny), it should bring the water temp up relatively slowly anyways.

25 gallon tank, 100w heater
That will heat the water up relatively fast. I'd raise them temp maybe 3 degrees over the course of a day. That's just how I'd do it.

Have you ever thought of getting an Inkbird? It's a controller that gives you redundancy. It would have prevented this by happening by alerting you when the temp had only dropped a few degrees.

Unfortunately I cannot be at home all day today so can't be here to manually turn it up so should I just set it to 73?
Getting an ink bird was my first thought after I noticed my mistake, I will definitely get one soon.

I did this 11/23. Mine got down to 71. I just turned it back on and didn't really pay attention to how fast it came back up. I've read water temp on reefs can change quickly as cooler /warmer currents come through. Not sure if it's true since I don't dive but it made sense to me. So far all fish and acros are doing fine.

You don't gave to be home all day to do it gradually, but setting it up 3 degrees won't hurt much. I just like to create as much stability as possible in my tank.
