Hello guys. What is the name of this wrasse?

I can't say I recognize this wrasse, though the vertical stripes and the two-tone tail there are very distinctive features.

Maybe @Slocke @i cant think or one of the other wrasse experts will know it.

It is the very rarely seen male Hologymnosus rhodonotus. The red backed longface wrasse.


You have no idea how long it took to track this down. Cool fish though.

Bah, I even looked at that one but all I saw were pics of the females/juveniles, haha - great find!

I almost did the same. I had gotten it down to Hologymnosus but none of the photos looked remotely similar but then I saw that it was called “red backed” and I scrolled a bit further.
