I'm currently new to this site and the saltwater aquarium keeping hobby! I set up and started my first saltwater aquarium a month ago. The things I put in the aquarium are sea sand, rocks (including one covered in algae) and some algae and right now there's lots of brown algae and life in it, especially on the glass, after almost a month.

Thank you for all of the kind words :D

Yes, my tank does have brown algae but there is already life, but I plan on adding some live stocks in April (or even later March). The tank doesn't have a chiller or a heater and is a somewhat temperate (temperature here reaches 80s Fahrenheit during the summer).

Question though: What are the creatures that could thrive in this non-tropical, unheated or no chiller aquarium? And is okay to collect washed up algae and some small critters from the beach (as long as its not in an MPA beach, license even required)?
