HELP Gold torch with dark purple tips?!?!

Help! I’m trying to find out to care for my torch. Why are there dark purple tips/tentacle.

Your torch seems to be dying. Would have to know your parameters, flow, lighting to know why.

I just can’t seem why it’s been downhill since adding it to the tank.

It is most likely a goner. Gold torches are more sensitive than other variants of euphyllia and I've seen even the most minor changes in parameters throw them into a downward spiral. It could be some sort of contaminant got into the water. Running carbon might help. Unfortunately, there probably isnt much to be done at this point.

Most corals don't like zero nitrates and zero phosphates. At least low amounts are needed. I try to keep my tank at 2 ppm NO3 and 0.02 PO4 minimum.

Will do! I cant necessarily tell if it's completely dead tissue or just really discolored. Either way not good. As SuncrestReef said, corals do not like levels of 0 for phos and nitrate. I lost a lot of coral from bringing my nitrates and phos too low. Obviously, they dont like high levels either. Everything in moderation!

Your mag is way to high and your calcium is low. Shoot for 1350 mag, don’t go over 1400. Calcium should always be 400-480, unless your running extremely low alk for some reason. Feed your tank more and get some nutrients built up in there. Unfortunately I think it may be to late for this torch, but it will not be able to recover in its current tank parameters.

No problem! I greatly appreciate the advice! Literally just starting off with reef aquariums. I’m trying to find a method to reduce magnesium. Do you have any suggestion? Currently I do use an RODI but I’m unsure why it’s so high.

If your not dosing it then it must be in your salt mix. I’m not sure how it got that high, but water changes are pretty much the only way to correct it. Once alk, cal, and mag are all in line and in good ratios the corals will consume them, at that point you will need to dose your alk, cal, and mag to keep up. Water changes will do this for you for awhile.
