Hey guys so recently my tank has not been looking that great. Some corals are just like whatever they are alive, but not really thriving ! I’m currently dosing Red Sea 3 part but have been thinking of switching to “all for reef” dosing instead! Most of the time when I talk to other reefers I ask to see their tanks and I ask what they are dosing more than half the time the most vibrant and best looking tanks are being dosed with “all for reef” . Recently a buddy of mine got into reefing and I gave him the whole basic rundown once he was ready for coral I told him that I would like for him to dose “all do reef “ to prove my theory and behold his corals look great and are thriving ! Of course there could be many other factors that come into play but my best guess is that ! My parameters are pretty stable month to month , flow is great, no algae, fish are good , CUC is good it’s just my corals seems to be looking like ehhhh ! Anyway here’s a pic of my parameters and my tank. I will also drop a pic of my buddies tanks you will be able to tell whose tank belongs to who right away lol don’t matter I helped him set it up and guide him on it that tank is my work too lol ! So what do you guys think is it a risk if I switch to “all for reef “ and should I even try this ? Could this be the game changer ? Or should I look into other factors ?

All for reef or red sea will not matter which you use, all you are doing with both dosing methods is replacing mag, calcium and alk that your corals use.

No pictures are showing btw.

Also I’m on Kessils A160 and my buddie is on Red Sea 90s for lighting.. could be the lighting as well, also I do have a lot of monotone coloration going on may just need to add more zoas ! To further add I got a lot going on in life right now and I’m at the point where I just want my tank top look good and be on autopilot , I honestly feel just like everyone I’ve put time, money and souls for many years and I haven’t got to where I would like to be with my tank

Great looking tanks existed way before ‘All for Reef’ came out. I used All for Reef but now am using ESV Bionic. I like the pH boost ESV gives my tank and the corals like it too.

Maybe im just trippin lol
Thanks for the picture.

From those two tanks I definitely prefer the tank with the kessils, the rock work is much better in my opinion.

Hard to tell from the other picture what most of the upper corals are in tank 2 and if they are fully open as some don’t look fully open but hard to tell but the only difference I see is he has a few more orange corals which give his tank a little more pop.

Your tank has a really good base to work from, add a few more colourful corals and your tank will look totally different.

I think you are experiencing what is called the grass is always greener syndrome, you know all your tanks issues, when you look at it, it is hard to see the tank for how it really is, your mind is seeing all the little issues you know are there.

It’ s not the kessils, those are great lights, the only thing I think it could be, you may prefer the blue from his lights? The blue light can make a difference to how the corals look.

To put your mind at rest, would it be possible for you to borrow his light for an hour when his lights turn off for the night, then see how your tank looks.

I don't really see anything wrong.

Switching to AFR seems fine.

You could always have an ICP test run to get a good idea where all of your water parameters are.

How much do you dose?
Doesn't seem like it would be very much.

Sometimes, you just have to go back to basics. Stop dosing, re-calculste, start again.
