I'm just getting into SPS in my first tank. I picked up this green montipora on Friday and have it on a rack in my display so I can bring it up to higher light before glueing it in. Could anyone help me identify if it is a named montipora? The fish store couldn't tell me any more than montipora and they showed me the maybe 10" piece they frag off of weekly. The colors are pretty accurate, maybe a little more kelly green in person. Also, I've highlighted two areas where there's polyps (?) growing off the rock. Would these be off the same coral or are they a hitchhiker? Thanks in advance!

It’s just a green monti cap, same as the red ones. No fancy names that make the price crazy expensive for no reason :)
The other polyps look like a different coral to me, I’ve never seen a cap grow off like that.

Cool, thanks! I wasn't expecting it to be anything fancy. I got that frag and the green acro next to it off a $20, 2/$35 rack. I've tried small montipora from WWC that are smaller than a postage stamp and haven't seen growth in almost two months. The other frag will be my first acro so I'm really hoping that goes well. Thanks again. :)

What light do you have? That’s all I can think of for it not growing other than Ca/alk deficiency but I don’t see that being the case. Anyway good luck with this guy, I love green cap but that and purple aren’t very easy to find near me. Just pink and orange.

Two AI Prime HDs above my 40 breeder. They run the BRS AB+ settings for 6.5 hours with two hour ramps on either side. The montipora that have been in the tank for a couple months are in the top third. I've heard from others with those lights that the top third would be about 300 PAR directly under an individual light and about 350 where they overlap but I haven't tested PAR in my tank. I do have a coral beauty that took a nip out of one of them and that has come back so I guess there's that growth. I just haven't seen them get bigger from their original size. Mag/alk/calc are 1400/9/460. The only thing I dose is for alk; I'm trying to lower the others about 10%.
