Can anyone tell me what this is and is it beneficial or do I need to remove it?

The orange thing is a fleshy limpet - to my knowledge, it should be harmless/beneficial.
I think you are spot on, that is exactly what it looks like. Where does it reside in the tank? I look at this aquarium for hours every day for the past 7 months and this is the first time I'm seeing it.

From what I can tell, they typically like to climb around on the rocks, so I'd guess it has been hanging out in the rockwork.

I'm referring to the redish thing on the glass. The other thing is a serpent star
Pics a little fuzzy. Can you circle or provide clearer pics?
