Help me clear up my water

I have a brand new tank with only filter socks at the moment and they hardly catch any debris. Main problem is cat hair magically appearing in the tank does anybody know some filter media that will help?

Walmart filter floss for pillows or felt in the sock might help. Although easier deployed with cups vs socks.
