Help with a 55 Gallon...

My other Pic is pretty much the whole tank. My display is a 56 gallon column so it's tall. 30" x 18" x 24", but here is another FTS. This pic shows the DSB on the right side of the tank which is held in place by a rock retaining wall. I know a lot of folks are afraid of DSBs but i have used them for decades and never had a tank poisoned by it. They do help with denitrification which is helpful for me. I love lots of fish and i like to feed them well.

Hey guys, I am still setting up the 55-gallon, but here is my idea for the aquascape with the dry rock. I still have the live rock from the 29 gallon, so I will make that around the dry rock structure. Do you guys think this is good or what should I change? here is the video: 29-Gallon Rockwork (not a virus lol)

With the live rock from the smaller tank that should be nice. Traditional 55 gallon tanks are a real challenge to aquascape with them being so long and narrow. They are nice for some fish to have that 4' length to swim however.
With your coral that should have things filled in very nicely! I will look forward to seeing it after the transfer.

Thank you! Yes, wayyyy too late to see that the tank was a bit narrow, but this tank is actually the same narrow as the 29. Will update in a few days! I think for stocking, I'll get one engineer goby (still deciding because Dottyback can probably eat him if he is too small), tomini tang for sure, and a coral beauty.

Also, we were thinking of moving everything in one day, but the thing is that the RODI water is so slow. We are more than halfway done right now, as this is the second day for water. But I will add some of the water from the 55g to the 29g to make the things in the 29g acclimated, is that fine?

Oh, so you are adding the 55g but keeping the 29g up and running too. I missed that. Yes I would think it would be ok to add some of the 55g's water as that would be like a small water change.

I had a tomini tang and it was a great utilitarian fish as well as a beauty. My tank is a 56g but its 30" x 18" x 24" so it wasn't optimal for the tomini. Everything was fine until a month or so ago when I got a fairy wrasse and the tomini was harassing it. I decided to re-home it to a friend who has large coral grow out systems and could use fish like the tomini. I do miss Tommy the tomini. I also have a coral beauty and Angelica (my name for her) is now boss fish with Tommy gone. The two of them were buds but she seems just fine with him gone.

Tommy never got huge, maybe 3" - 3 and a half. He did not look stunted but I know my tank was not as much open water as he should have had.

Update: everything is done moving and looks well! We are going to add the new fish 2 days later (tomini tang, melenurus wrasse, and if I can find one then Longnose Atlantic butterflyfish, if not then a small OS FF). The picture is blurry and bad. We are still using two filters to take all the debris away. Better picture a few hours later…

Hey guys, one question: Are smaller tangs more prone to ich, velvet, etc., and have a low survival rate? My LFS has a tomini tang for $60 and wanted to know if they die easily or not? I think it is a good deal but I just wanted to know. Also my LFS is also giving me a deal for $60 for the foxface. I will buy these two fishes tomorrow. (dw, I WILL swap the foxface for a smaller one in the LFS after a year or two, but if it's fine, then forever.)
