Help with algae and cloudiness!

You can always do tank lights out . Algae whether it’s plankton or hair algae needs light to grow . Take away the light and you will see it diminish . Fish will be fine with ambient light . You can move the Green Star polyp to a Qt tank with light . . Or you can try hydrogen peroxide spray on the worst covered rocks when removed temporarily from the system and then reintroduced after a scrubbing .

Good reply! I'd just add that I wouldn't even bother to move the GSP or any other corals for a black out. A short 3 to maybe up to 5 day black out is the equivalent of a very cloudy, stormy week over a natural reef where corals many feet bellow the water will get very little light until the storm clears. So totally natural, normal for corals to go a few days with minimal light.

I maintain a FOWLR I did a lights out for 3 weeks finally got rid of the hair algae , I can’t say that it is completely gone but I don’t see it . like as before . I found a smidge under the tank in the Refugium slightly above the water line on some pvc . So I know it’s still in there , but will try lights out again during the Christmas break .
