I tested potassium a few days ago and it was at around 290. I bought some red sea color B which appears to be a mix of potassium and boron (Borax).

Can someone check to see if this is right?
Total water volume is 150 gallons

The description in BRS says;
" 1 mL will raise the potassium level of 25 gallons (100 liters) by 1.75ppm."
From what I get 360ml will raise potassium by 105ppm.
Is this right?.

Thank you,
Albert

6ml = 1.75ppm increase for 150 gallons.

So yes, according to Red Sea you want to add 360ml. You don't want to add it all at once and I would probably start with a much lower dosage, ie: 20ml/daily. Check the packaging to see if there's a maximum recommended dose.

I wouldn't increase by more than 10ppm per day

Thanks for your feedback.

It was getting late and I decided to add 100ml of the potassium. Weird thing is I tested a few hours ago and it is still not rising (Salifert pot. kit, expired 02/23.) I'm thinking that the test kit is off so..

I had bought another salt yesterday (Fauna Marin Professional Sea Salt). It has an icp test done per batch. I just mixed 20 gallons and ran a potassium test and came out pretty much like their ICP test (ICP = 420, my test 440ppm). Note, the salt says you can do a water change only 5 minutes after it is mixed, I tested about 20 mins after it was mixed.

I just did a water change with it. 20 gallons for 135 gallon net volume of water. Water volume is 135 gallons, not the 150 gallons I originally posted.

I think I'm just going to do a water change every few days with this new salt. Depending how the corals react. If it is low on potassium, it must be low on other elements.

For some reason yesterday I decided to do a magnesium and potassium test that I rarely do. I've been using Reef Crystals for years and those levels were always on point. It's possible that the last few buckets of Reef Crystals has been off.
