Hello,

about a month ago I got a small Illuminati frag. Initially it typically opened pretty fully to fully. For the past week or two it’s opening but generally not fully, the skirt seems to be what’s held closed. Have a lot or other zoas, some I got at the same time, all thriving. Rasta’s near it doing very well. I don’t think anything is eating/bothering it. Was trying to hold off moving it to higher light, but I’m wondering if that could be the problem?

thoughts appreciated!

Looks about the same for me too. From day one they were reluctant to open. After moving around tank to various flows and light I begin to realize illuminati's might be low tolerance zoa. I can say some of my issue resulted from parameter swing with salinity. I noticed they dont recover as quickly as most zoas strains would in a matter of weeks.

Sometimes certain zoas just seem to struggle. I have some that thrive, including illuminati that started as a 4 polyp frag and is now twenty something, while another type will occasionally melt. Its weird.

Sometimes a frag needs more time to get used to your tank and start growing. I have had a duncan for months with no growth. All of a sudden I have 2 heads popping at the same time. Give it some more time and patience. Nice frag though

Thanks. I will let it ride for now. It just be that they are touchy. I had rainbow hornets that were doing poorly until the middle few polyps melted. After that the polyps on either end of the frag plug started thriving. Go figure.

Moving them low and various flow has not worked over the course of the 5 months I have had mine. All of my other zoas seem fine. I wonder if it's possible for some strains my have genetic issues or just pulled from a sick frag host ?

Dipped the illuminati's for 5 min using Seachem Reef dip yesterday. They all shrunk up severely but has reopened today about 20%. Will keep updating post also

Weird how corals react to our tanks. My Illuminati’s are one of the few zoas I have that are always looking happy. Mine are in what I consider a higher light zone
