Help with refugium

So, I have a new sump and I have a sizeable refugium. I am wanting to get a low powered powerhead that can be programmed in Apex Fusion, not just plugged into it. Any tips?

Depending on what you plan to keep in the fuge, using a powerhead in that chamber might not work well -- a lot of macros will just get tangled in the pump. To add more flow to the fuge, it might be better to T off from your return line and have some water returned to the fuge... I did this with good success in the past.

Which sump do you have?

*and sorry, but I'm not familiar with which pumps are compatible with Apex

Why do you want it programmable through Fusion?

I have 2 small opposing pumps in my sump. One is a leftover MP10 from my previous tank, the other is a Sicce Syncra Nano. I plugged that one into a Kasa power strip and used the scheduling function in the Kasa app to turn it on when the MP10 is on “low” to get opposing flow.

I have an Apex controller but just don’t feel the need to control the MP10 in Fusion. No benefit over Mobius IMO.

There is some, but not enough to keep the chaeto in suspension. That is my biggest objective here.

I’ll have to get a photo of my sump/fuge tomorrow but the pumps are just there to keep detritus suspended, and to “mix up” my gracillaria so the same pieces aren’t on top all the time. I haven’t been able to get it to “spin” constantly like a washing machine. I think a gyre style pump would be better for that. Even so, my gracillaria grows very well under the conditions I have it in. Plus I get a ton of stomatella snails reproducing in the fuge which is pretty sweet :)

I actually need to flip the Syncra upside down so the outlet is on the bottom, pushing the gracillaria upwards. Added to the “to do” list!

Dirty fuges are good fuges! Lol

With those pumps though there isn’t any detritus on the bottom. Just coralline!

Happy to share what I’ve learned. I’m still decently new at all this. Obviously there are lots of ways to do it “right” so don’t stress too much about it :)
