Any tips on maintaining my new sump? Im already overrun by algae and its only been a week. Am I just supposed to hope my clean up crew handles it? Also looked up my fuge light and its 800 lumens!!! On this little tiny light so maybe its too strong? Also read not to put hermits in cuz they will eat my pods so what do I do about detritus? I already turned the light off becuase of the huge algea bloom one and 2 my cheato has already doubled in size. Is this light just too strong? Its my first Sump its 4 gallons under my 10g Nano Thanks for any input

If your cheato is growing that fast you have pretty high nutrients in the tank. I use a small vacuum or a hose and siphon all the derititus out of my sump. I would also up your water changes for awhile since you are having issues. Maybe also start running gfo in the sump.

i keep powerheads in each section of my sump, keeps the derititus from sitting.i also keep some blue leg crabs in there aswell.
