tank is fully cycled everything is going well so far, 2 snowflake clowns are doing great. Picked up a debelius fairy wrasse and it’s breathing in a U shape in the back corner of the tank in the sand bed. 40g breeder, only the two clowns. What happened? It was swimming beautifully in the store, acclimated for 40 minutes.

How did you acclimate? Did you test salinity in the water from the store? Sometimes fish stores run their salinity way lower since fish only tanks can handle that. Could have been a big salinity difference.

Just bc the clowns are doing OK, doesnt mean other fish will. Keep in mind that clowns are SUPER hardy fish. They can take higher level of ammonia / water parameter.. than most fish.

Along with krissiRLT above, i am most certain it was the way you acclimate... you want to do drip acclimate very slow for roughly 30min then add the fish. After adding the new fish, you will need to keep an eye on it every hour. I normally add new fish on the weekends, where i am off of work and available to watch it. Once you see issues w/the new fish, take it out asap.
