Where's the mechanical filtration (you do not want to clog your skimmer's intake)?

Where's the mechanical filtration (you do not want to clog your skimmer's intake)?

I have a special drain cap on the water going out of the tank and into the skimmer compartment.
I planned to do some mechanical filtration somewhere in the sump but have not decided on the location!
do you think it will be ok?
