I have a vicious but very personable hermit crab that got sent to the sump for crimes against snails. She was supposed to be a dwarf red legged hermit but she outgrew the rest of the crew.

I also have a small set up with Mangroves in my window. Unfiltered, unheated, using sunlight. I was wondering if the Hermit of Death would survive under those conditions. Anyone have any idea?

Thanks

Heat. Hermit crabs are happiest kept at 72-80 F (22-27 C). If the temperature drops below 72 F on a regular basis, the crabs will likely become weak, stressed, and ill. Unless living in a tropical climate, most owners will need to use a heater at least part of the time to keep the crab tank at optimal temperatures
