Hermit crab shuffle

I’ve got 5 hermits of varying sizes. I keep a loose pile of vacant shells of different shapes and sizes in my tank at all times. I’ve noticed a few of my hermits over time change shell, then change back, then change again several times before staying in one. Is this normal or are they not finding what they want and eventually settling?

It's pretty normal for them to switch around. Mine do it all the time. It's like going to the shoe store and trying on a few pairs, eventually you find the one you like.
