Hermit crab trading shells

Lefty (my hermit crab with a large left claw) keeps growing, so today I put a new shell in the tank for him. Within 2 minutes he moved in:

I’ve witnessed this before with my Marshall Islands Electric Blue Hermit. It’s cool and it is necessary for them as they grow.

That’s awesome ,Was in the Bahamas in early May and there was hundreds of them and the locals showed us how they arrange themselves biggest to smallest in rows and every crab exchanges a Shell one after the next for protection from the birds pretty neat stuff
