Welcome Aboard!Hey y’all!
I’m new to the reefing world, and it’s entirely my boyfriend’s fault. He’s been in the hobby for a minute now, and when we started dating, I had zero idea what a protein skimmer was or why we were naming the scientific name of some coral. But slowly, over months (and now years), he started teaching me things and even trusted me to babysit his tank while he was out of town—which honestly felt like babysitting tiny, dramatic ocean creatures, especially when we had the wrasse.
Eventually, he upgraded (because of course), and instead of selling his old tank, he helped me set it up for myself. So now I’ve got my own little reef going and I’m starting to figure things out. He’s still my go-to when something goes weird (or wet), but I’m trying to be more hands-on and less “babe, what’s this thing doing?”
Outside of reefing, my thing is designing and making stuff—so naturally, that bled into the hobby too. I’ve made cages for mushrooms, custom frag racks for containers to make transporting (or even shipping) corals easier. It all started as a way to help my boyfriend, but he pointed out that other reefers might find them useful too—so that might be a thing!
I’m still super new and learning every day, but I love it. I’ll be posting my tank soon—and probably his too, because it’s massive and cool and, well, I have access.
Anyways I def appreciate any tips, and glad to be part of the community.
Btw this is my favorite shot to date! Looks like fireworks to me

Lol he just kept showing me the pretties of things, sometimes bought some gorgeous stuff and my favorite color and would say “I bought this cause it made me think of you” he also didn’t name his fish so I started naming them according to their personalities and traits and eventually it became text messages saying “mango did this!!” “Mushu is so sweet!!” And “peekaboo is less shy?!”. It was def the flirting and corny lines. He would also let me help him with feeding, fragging and even packing. But those were the easy sweet days that got me hooked!!Welcome to R2R! I need tips from your boyfriend so I can get my wife to get into reefing.
