Dipping and checking for pests on the corals I just got. This thing swam out of a hammer coral frag plug (looked like it was between the epoxy and the bubble algae I was getting off.

Glad it's not in my tank, but wanted to know what it was

Amphipods get that big?! I've seen copepods and how small they were. Thought they were the same size

Nope. Look up amphipods, isopods, and copepods.

I had a big amphipod. I still have a blurry photo of it. And not to forget there’s 9.9k species of amphipods and 1.9k species are freshwater amphipods. Copepods are microscopic level and barely visible to the naked eye.

Looks like an amphipod. Completely safe for a reef. Never seen a red one before though. My yellow Coris Wrasse would find this a very yummy meal. Lol!

Looks exactly like an amphipod, but mine are grey, I never saw a red/orange one before. I’ll take 50 please and thank you.
