Ok so I just bought a frag of orange zoanthids. This is one of my first corals I bought yesterday and there's a hole in the rock were there are long "branches" and a few tentacles sticking out of it.

Kind of sounds like a glass anemone except for the fact that you said it has branches? but its hard to tell lol with the blurry picture. Anyway you could get a more clear one?

I don't think it's an anemone because the "branches" are hard. There's only 2 that actually move around. Here's a better ish pic lol

Did you dip this coral?

....Always.. always.. always... dip your coral.. no exception. ;)

Now, I do a heavy shake in a pan of tank water and do a brush cleaning first, to give any good hitchhikers a chance to show themselves.. and save themselves. Then to the dip it goes.

Search Bayer dip on this forum.

Looks like an aptasia to me, but don't quote me on that.
If it was me I would get rid it.

9 times out of 10 hitchhikers are pests.
Sometimes you get lucky, but rarely!

It looks like an aptasia in the "in the tank" picture, but it looks pike a peanut worm in the "out of the tank" picture to me.

Is the peanut worm bad? I put the frag back in the tank after I rinsed it and made sure there was nothing else in the whole. Was this ok?

Peanut worms are harmless. They are just a member of the clean up crew. That is good. If the same thing shows up in the spot again, it more than likely is an aptasia because they can grow back from almost nothing or near-death. I really think you are fine though.

Definitely looks like a peanut worm (a good thing). Wish you had posted better photos. With nothing in your tank there's no reason to be hasty. I'm very hitchhiker tolerant.

Ok so after doing a little more research ice came to the conclusion that it was a bristle cage worm.

+1 on taking time with hitchhikers. I dont dip coral myself, but will be starting on my next purchase only because of all the horror stories I've been reading lately. I have never had a bad hitchiker couple bristleworms but they dont seem to bother anything, no unexplained deaths to associate to a bad hitcher...some of the best advice someone in this hobby can get, or give is take your time dont rush often rushing leads to more problems down the road.
