Rare Fish Alert!
Say hello to Rainfordia opercularis — the Australian Flathead Perch, one of the rarest and most sought-after aquarium fish in the world. With vibrant orange and aqua stripes that glow in adulthood, this deepwater oddball is as stunning as it is elusive.
Max size: 5–7” Doesn’t nip at coral or sessile inverts Best with peaceful tankmates (that aren’t bite-sized!)This cryptic species was once going for $8,000+ in aquarium shops (
Reefbuilders, 2011). But now, thanks to the expert team at Biota North Carolina, you can own one for a fraction of the price. Raising their larvae is notoriously difficult—but decades of aquaculture experience made it possible.
If you’re looking for a holy grail showpiece, this is it.
