Holy grail micromussa receding

Hey everyone,

I’ve had this holy grail micromussa for a couple years now. Around thanksgiving/Christmas time I upgraded to a larger setup and it had been doing seemingly fine, but has been slowly receding for about a week now.

This is a pic when I first put in tank. The lower edge was where I pulled it off the old rock.

These two are its current state.

It is almost directly under one of the LEDs (AP700) so I’m trying to shade it. I’m not sure what the PAR is but they run at 60% at their maximum and the coral is about 16” under it (8” above the water and 8” below the water).

Salinity: 34.8 ppt
pH: 7.67-7.78
Temp: 75-76
DKH: 7.3

I haven’t tested my other water parameters since setting it up (ran out of reagents and haven’t had the money to order more).

The other corals seem to be doing fine. A couple had a rough go from the transfer but are getting better but this is the only one that was doing fine and is getting worse.

Hey i have a couple micros of my own that are doing pretty well, i wanna guess light intensity was the problem. Is that second pic a shot from top of the tank ? Looks like it was placed in a hot spot for the light and u bleached it out. I have all mine right on the floor. My tanks 24 inches tall + 9 inches for the light arm so mine really arnt getting the highest par.

So probably try moving the coral to the bottom corner of your tank away from the light to see if it recovers also very low flow gives them a chance to really puff up. Good news is these guy bounce back really nicely once they find a spot they like i had one of mine melt completly when a elegance tumbled on it over night and now u wouldnt even be able to tell anything was wrong with . Hopefully yours comes back thats a beautiful piece. Heres a pic of mine

I agree With this

I keep mine on the ground, off center from the lighting. Mines in the far right corner, towards a the front of the sandbed.

Instead of shading it I would suggest reloading it, and having it flat, so all polyps can face upwards and get light from above. Also feed it at night when feeding tentacles are out. Small particle food for these guys. Reef roids. Benereef. Copepods. Caviar (reef food). Frozen marine plankton. Stuff like that

Might want to dip that in lugols to help prevent any infections.

Thanks for all the responses. I’ll try moving it lower and see how it does. I’ll post again when it has had some time to acclimate.
