Is anybody using some of the technology out there for house automation? Like Nest, Wink, Insteon August etc? Just bought a house and would like to utilize some of this stuff. Main things i'm looking for is being able to control most of the items over the internet or phone.

Front Door lock, (lock/unlock)
garage door (open/shut)
Lights on/off
Possible Camera's in the house (for the fish tank)

Other things i should be thinking of that i haven't?

Not sure if they have it but a log would be nice so we can see when things happen.

Let me know if your using anything and eexperience I don't want to spend $5,000 on this so price is something to consider. leaves me more money for corals... :)

You right man spend this money for corals! I don't know... this home automation systems are good and comfortable but it's not necessary to use them )) You can turn off your light yourself))) If it possible to save this money - save it!))) And fishes or corals will say you thanks my friend :rolleyes:)))

I do have a Nest Camera, a Phillips Hue set and a WEMO which I use to control my return pump in case something goes wrong in my tank. :)

I have one of these as well. Also complains that I have a fish tank and all the cleaning can't get the smell out of the house.

Ok back to original poster. I have wemo lights throughout the house, nest, chamberlain garage door, also have a couple types of smart locks. I use an app called IFTTT app it turns lights on and off as I leave the house turns temps down also sends me emails letting me know that it happened.

Yes.. but I've never had my home automation system talk back, tell me no, or ever say "I told you so...". It may not be able to cook, but it can order food for me :-p

Have iris from lowes, has an app, log, pretty easy ui, all diy. Cost is not terrible, depends on what you want..

They have an automated lawn mower you can buy. I've thought about getting it but my lawn guy does everything and is very cheap. Just have to get him in the 21st century so I can setup autopay and stop having to write checks.

Better off leasing... If you really like it, extend the lease or buy it. If not, trade in and trade up ;)
