Hey guys. I’d like to post some images of my homemade stand build. I’m new to reefing- by first salt water tank has barely finished cycling, so not much to show yet.

I’d like to share some images of my custom stand build. I’ve got some woodworking experience, so hopefully someone finds this helpful. Also I would love any input, questions, comments, and critiques.

Here is my complete stand with aquarium. It has been painted white and covered with several quotes of an outdoor water based urethane so that it will be water resistant and won’t yellow over time.

The center support is removable to accommodate addition of my sump tank .

I added groves to the canopy to accommodate lighting and wiring.

I just purchased my very first corals in last nights zoanthids.com sale! Fingers crossed that goes well!-experience in woodworking does not equal experience reefing

Actually there are some similarities for caveats between woodworking and reefing;
“have the right tool for the right job” and my fav “measure twice and cut once”. Good luck stocking the tank and just remember to take your time - nothing happens quick in this hobby except failure for not having patience :)

Thought I’d share my diy build - basically a standard 2x4 aquarium frame that I then “inserted” into Ikea base cabinets for the finished look I was going for. The tank is a 90g running for 8+ years and the smaller tank is a jelly tank. I just built this stand a few months ago. I love diy builds, lots of threads of great ideas!

Wow-that’s a cool idea! Can’t believe haven’t seen that before. Great way to get a nice professional look.

One thing I would recommend is addition of a urethane coating or marine varnish- especially to the inside if you have a sump, or anything damp down there.

The particle board of ikea furniture is very porous, and will soak up moisture and swell and degrade overtime when it gets wet. Critical for me- since I haven’t mastered the art of the perfectly dry water change yet.

Good suggestion on the water coating - I had considered doing this for the same reasons you noted but my system underneath is dry - it is a sumpless setup so just a canister filter and so no dampness :)
