I was wonder could i drill a hole in the bottom of my tank, run a pvc pipe up through it with a bulkhead and then put a grate on the top (3d printed maybe). I was just wondering if it was doable and if I needed a special kind of drill or drill bit.

tank is a ten gallon and possible sump will be 27 gallons. The 27g container was going to be a rodi storage container but I got a better one.

Have to make sure the glass isn't tempered and I'd recommend the back panel instead of the bottom.

With like a regular drill bit?
No. You need a special glass bit and constant water on it to keep the bit cool. Do more research on what it takes on YouTube or such. Especially if drilling the bottom. It presents all sorts of issues involved in the process and result.

As others have said, ensure the glass panel you are drilling is non-tempered; otherwise, it will shatter. There are some good youtube videos showing how to do this. Here is a link for diamond drill bits on BRS, you can get them on amazon and other places too: https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/catalogsearch/result?q=diamond
