I just picked up my first few acans from a group buy our club did...my question is how do they grow? I see a lot of people just have them laying on their sandbed. Will they grow into large colonies? Do they grow their own skeleton? or should I mount them on my rockwork?

thanks in advance.

If you leave them in the sand they will turn inito a giant ball(Not Good) IMO. Mount them to some rockwork or a Large frag disk so they can spread onto it. The do grow their own skeleton yes, and they will bud new small polyps around the growth edge

I tried leaving mine on the sand. It does grow into a ball (Surrounding the frag disk or rock) leaving no space for 'Spreading out' like a chalice. I'll see if I can find a pic tonight. I'm planning on gluing frags to some flat pieces of rock.
