I used 1/4" thick egg crate I found on amazon. was like $12 for 4 - 12" pieces that clip together. didn't want to scratch the glass. too expensive.

Makes sense. It does seem like the bottom glass on most tanks gets scratched a lot.I used 1/4" thick egg crate I found on amazon. was like $12 for 4 - 12" pieces that clip together. didn't want to scratch the glass. too expensive.
Is it hollow to have some "squish"?I used PVC 2x4 ceiling tile cut to fit on the bottom of mine. Then siliconed it all along the edge. I left about 1 to 2inch buffer just in case I ever wanted to remove it and wouldn’t risk cutting the silicone seams on the tank. I think one piece was like 12 bucks or less
No it’s solid PVS waterproofIs it hollow to have some "squish"?

Yes, but I have Halichoeres Wrasses which require sand.Get rid of that pesky sand altogether. . . problem solved!
All my tanks are bare bottom and I prefer base rock that is flattened on one side to sit against the glass.
