How high do i set my halide?

Firing up a fresh 40 breeder with a 20 long sump this weekend. Picked up a nice used metal halide at the LFS to get me by till i get the LEDs get up an going. How close to the tank do i hang my fixture?

Depends on the wattage of the metal halide.

150 watt.

I hung my 250 about 11 inches above my 40 breeder so anywhere between 8-12 inches would be good for your 150 Watt imo
