I currently have dual 250w mh with reef optix reflectors mounted on a canopy that is 12" high. So the bulbs are about 10" from the surface of the water in my 22" tall tank. I recently redid some aquascaping and now my rock height is half way from the top. My question is...what would be the recommended height i should have my lights when the top of my rockwork is at the middle of the tank? my last resort is to add more live rock. oh and I have a mixed reef...but mostly SPS.

+1 on Fragtastic's advice.

You could go as close as 6 inches off the water, but you'll be running into heat issues anyway is my guess. If 10 inches turns out to be close enough (250w's should be good for a 24" deep tank) then why make the heat worse?

right i gottcha. i don't have any heat issues where its at right now. my only concern is that will it affect my sps's bright colors now that it's further away from the light?
