I assume you mean the XR30's? If so, you should only need 3 according to ecotech's recommended spread ratings. I can't speak to how accurate those recommendations are though since i've never had an XR30.

Some people would probably go with 4 if they had the cash available. Too much light/spread is better than too little any day.

I'd go with XR15s over 30s. You'll have more control and redundancy. Depends how you're mounting them though. If you're putting them on a custom rail or canopy there is really no cost benefit for buying 30s.

I have 3 on my 72"x27x24" deep. So far so good. Tanks been up for 6 months and sps are growing and coloring up well. Running at 65% so I got more room to turn them up, but don't see a need for that yet.

I have a 180g - 72x24x24 and use 3 gen 4’s on the rail track system. So far there is enough spread of lights so i wont add a 4th plus all corals look very good.

I'm in the process of setting up a standard 180 gallon and will probably go with 3 XR30 Pro's on the Ecotech rail. I have braces on the tank. I can't hang anything over the tank. (ceiling is very high) so the rail is really my only option.

I'm tempted to wait a bit to see if the 5th generation comes out, which would make the 4's get much cheaper.

I have 4 pro’s on a 125 (72” long). It’s more than fine however if I had money I would turn them sideways and run 5

I would go with 4 mounted front to back. I have 5 on my 8' 240. Zero shading, except where the corals have grown so big.. LOVE my radions

Running 6 over a 220 (72x24x30) mounted front to back. Overkill? Maybe. Corals (SPS) are doing fine.

I run 4 xr30 g4 pros, front to back on my Redsea reefer 750. No shading and corals love it. Running coral lab AB+ at 50% using RMS tank mounts

I would go with 4 xr30 pros mounted front to back to eliminate some of the shading you will get when you mount them side to side. Or use some other lighting to fill in the gaps.

I would do three and then add some t5 on the front and back side. You will get wonderful light spread and fill in all the spots the radions can’t get to.

This is an old thread but I’ll add my experience. I have 3 Radion XR30 pros on my 72x27x24, starting this April.

I was previously running T5 retros so I just kept a pair and run them front and back, inspired by WWC. If I wasn’t running the T5, I would probably run 4, mounted front to back rather than lengthwise to give better coverage.

My corals are doing well.
