If I decide to get a new Nikon DSLR (a D series) what would be the best mp to get? I mean, I realize after so high it's pointless but, I'm just curious to see what would work well and be compatible with the lenses I already have.

Unless you’re printing your pictures extreme MP cameras aren’t a necessity. I’d focus more on things like noise performance at high ISO which is a main pain in aquarium photography due to light levels and motion of our subjects, swiveling lcd if u do many top down shots. I have tried a few bodies throughout the years and I’m very happy with my current D750. The D500 is also a good choice if you prefer a cropped sensor . Lense choice is Another key choice as well
