Hi, when assembling a large rimless aquarium (500 gallons) would it be best to have the front and side panels on the bottom panel or have them going around the bottom panel. Tank is only going to be 40cm (16 inches high but im planning on using 12mm glass for the sides and 15mm for the bottom. I know its overkill but I would rather be safe then sorry. I promise I have done research on this, I have just seen so many conflicting opinions so im not sure. The tank would rest on a plywood stand with 6mm (1/4 inch) neoprene foam underneath the tank.

I don’t think that’s overkill at all
My 220gallon is 19mm thick sides and 26mm bottom. But mine is 24” tall so that extra height does play into it a bit.

It is an 11 safety factor with the dimensions of 350x150x50cm or 138x59x16". Is yours braced or rimless?

I have two, both rimless with bottom enforcements.

180x70x60 - 19mm
117x64x40 - 12mm

Based on all the tanks I’ve ever owned or seen in the hobby, you’ll likely want to enforce yours both top and bottom, and might even add enforcements on the sides too using 15mm glass across all sides for the dimensions above.
