So my tank is a planet aquarium 215 gallon with a single center overflow. 2x1” holds for drains and 2x3/4” holes for returns. I set it up with twin Durso standpipes because I had ran the same setup on my previous tank and had no issues at all. Now I’m thinking maybe I got lucky the first time. Too much noise, not enough flow, etc. I’m just not liking it at all. So I think I want to convert to a Herbie. Here is a pic of my current setup

So is it as simple as removing the top of my Durso on both pipes, cutting the full siphon pipe 6” shorter than the emergency and I’m done? Or is there something I’m missing?
Also, do you think using my true union ball valves that are currently in place will be sufficient for tuning or do I need to cut it out and place a gate valve?

All opinions welcome.

Pretty much is that simple. You’ll have to change the ball valve on your siphon line to a gate valve though. Might want to raise the emergency line a bit too. I run it level with the slots so there isn’t any spilling noise as the water goes into the overflow.
