So I just picked up a BioCube 29 with the CF lighting (for a nem tank) and I can't keep the temp below 80 - 82. What can be done?

Upgrade fans?
Add more fans (Did this on a Biocube with LED conversion - don't really want to do this again).

Other?

I would upgrade fans and lights were it me.

But, at the very least upgrade fans. If you can get it down to 80 you should be fine.

Are they special fans? Can I just buy computer fans? I've seen plug and play fans listed on ebay, but they seem high.

Best bet is to take off the lid and measure the fan both width and height. Then make your decision. Also you don't just want to throw any fan in there. Heck the original Oceanic 29 gallon cubes 6 - 7 years ago had horrible issues with the fans. So much they did a mini recall sort of thing whereas you just email them and they would send you better replacements.

Also don't quote me on this but I thought I read somewhere that you want one pulling air in and the other side pushing out. Not sure if the new models have it but you can also vent the rear lid so it can escape out.

Yep. All of the above.

I like Asus and Nashua fans personally.

I have had good luck with several brands but for the price/air flow/noise level those are good.

Cool, I'll look those up. I need quite, as it is in my office. Just need it to get to 78 and my nems will be happy.

I have a biocube 16 and i have the same issue. What i did is to prop the led open about 2 inches. I had to rig up a mesh around the opening to keep the fish in as i have had a few that jumped.
