Would that not scratch the glass?

If carefully done without a lot of pressure works. Just keep sand from the blade surface and be careful of the silicone seams. A plastic credit card works as well.

This is assuming you have a glass tank. Acrylic is a different animal.

A plain Mr clean magic eraser is safe as long as it has no cleaning agents in it, will it work? Don't know.

Metal scraper blade on a magnetic algae cleaner. Also a single edge razor blade will scrape it off, just be sure you don't leave the razor in the tank when you're done. It'll take some scraping but it'll come off. I'm about to order the Tunze magnet cleaner, which only has a blade and no pad. It's the sand that gets in the pads that scratches the glass.
