Hey! I'm about to buy a Hydros X4 but I wanted to see if I could skip the overpriced optical water level sensor and temperature sensor since I have some lying around that I was hoping could be easily connected to the X4.
I'm pretty sure the temp sensor used in the hydros is the DS18B20 and the optical water level sensor is the same as any other 4 cable Chinese optical water level sensor.
I would be very grateful if someone could post a photo of the cable arrangement inside the DX12 connector of these sensors.

My guess so far for the DS18B20:
+/5v to pin 2
-/GND to pin 1
line to pin 3
For the optical water sensor I guess I would need the small DF-Robot PCB (photo attached) that converts the 4 wires to 3 wires and then:
+/5v to pin 2
-/GND to pin 1
line to pin 4

PS: I've attached a "cheat sheet" for all the hydros ports in case this is helpful for someone, I'm not sure who uploaded it but the credits are for him/her.
Thanks :))

I just hooked my existing float switches to the sense ports and used the water level mode to set them up. The first screenshot is the setup for one of them. The second screen shot is one of the things at the tank. Sump High, Sump Full, Sump Low and Skimmer Full in this screenshot are all float switches. I have 10 of them total on the system using sense ports.

Cool setup!
I was actually looking for the optical sensors because I have 2 spare ones from my Reef-Pi (AWESOME projet btw) and they work great.
If you don't mind me asking, how did you connect 10 sensors if there is only 4 ports?

I also want to use the drive ports and the 0-10v as outputs for relays. I would never trust a wifi bar with a heater haha

If you ever have the chance to send me some pics of the DX-12 cable arrangement for the temp and the optical sensor It would be greatly appreciated :)

I love it. I have 9 controllers in a collective so they act as one large controller. I purchased the first one a couple of weeks after they came out and added to it over time. I was using the Archon by Digital Aquatics but now almost everything has been transferred to the Hydros.

That's pretty impressive, how big is your system?

I have a total of 18 sense ports. There are six at the tank and 12 in the garage where my storage tanks and ATO,AWC and dosing pumps are located. I have 9 controllers total in a collective. In a collective they share all inputs and outputs in the collective and act as one larger controller. I do jot have any of the optical sensors and do have three temp sensors but they are the Hydros ones. The first photo is in the garage. The Digital Aquatics stuff on the left is no longer on the control board in the garage. There were 4 Hydros controllers in the garage at the time of the photo. Between all the controllers there are 6 drive ports that power 3 solenoids and 3 pumps. The second photo is in the stand for the tank. There is an X3 and XS in there along with the Archon. I added a Wave Engine and a XP8 at the tank but they are in the back cabinet and I do not have any photos of them at the moment, I also added another controller in the garage since the photo. There is more info on the Hydros in my build thread on pages 7 and 8. Just click on the build thread contributor banner on one of my post to get to it.

That's an amazing setup, congrats!!!
By the temp sensor pinout I did meant the ones directly from hydros.
The reason I want to know this is because I have some generic DS18B20 that I wanted to check for possible compatibility with the X4. If they are not compatible I'm going to buy new ones from Hydros but I preferred to use the ones that I already have.

Thank you, there are three wires connected to the Gx12 connector. A black wire is connected to pin 1. A red wire is connected to pin 2 and a yellow wire is connected to pin 3. There is nothing connected to pin 4. Not sure if that is want you were asking. The sensor end is sealed so I have no idea what they are using for the sensor but I beleive it is an IC of some kind.

That's exactly what I was asking, THANKS!! :))
I'm 80% sure that the temp sensor that hydros uses is DS18B20, there are some links that even list the hydros sensor as "HDRS-DS18B20".
If i'm correct and you ever need new ones, you can pay approx 75% less and just buy any quality DS18B20.
For my Reef-Pi controller I bought some from DROK and they have been incredibly reliable Amazon link. It was $12.59 for 2 of these sensors

If anybody has the optical water sensor and could do the same thing it would be greatly appreciated
