I have been treating cyno for 3 months with every holistic method possible. I got tired of it. I used Chemi clean. Cyno is gone for now but brown dusting of algae re appeared on sand bed.

Is it that I don't have enough good bacteria.? I tried microbacter 7. Tropic marine. Nothing. Glass and sand now gets brown dusting daily.

Any ideas? Cures? 4 year old tank. Coral growing well.

GFO/Carbon? What else are you dosing. I would stop making so many changes let things settle down too.

What’s your current nitrates and phosphates, If they bottom out you could be experiencing the start of dinoflagellates now.

Nitrate 9.4
Phosphates .08

2 Part Dosing.

Carbon & GFO
Your nutrients seem fine, all I can suggest is to look for silica on your RO that could be feeding diatoms

I would probably say yes it’s a lack of good bacteria, 3 months to hit your tank with all those different treatments is a lot to get over, make sure you have enough rock or media for the bacteria, then let things settle down, keep removing as much as you can and keep the flow up, turning the sand over will also help if you normal clean the sand, if you don’t normally touch the sand, then leave it alone.

That could be diatoms, LCA or SCA. Have you added any new dry rock or sand lately? RO/DI source solid?

A microscopic view is really the only way to know for sure which it is.

How is your flow? How many power heads do you have? The several times I've had Cyano pop up I've solved it by manually removing it and adding more flow.
