I keep saying I will not buy the $5 frags at the LFS because they are always closed up and hard to ID from people shoving them around all day to pick through them. I just can't pass them up! I mean who can pass up a superman monti for $5?! So let's play this game again. I will tell you what I think I have, and you tell me how wrong I am lol;)

My guess: favites

My guess: cyphastrea

My guess: lepto (sorry, not making a whole new post for this one frag so I'm sticking it here too lol)

I took these about 5 min after acclimation, so they are not fully open, but I wanted to get them before the lights ramped down too much.

It is almost a lavender color with yellow polyps. The polyps are what are throwing me off, they don't look like the cyphastrea polyps I'm used to seeing.

Like this?

Yes, but with no green. I found this while searching. Harlequin cyphastrea

But the polyps on mine look too skinny for cyphastrea to me. I'll have to see once they fully open.

Sorry I just saw the second half. Yeah the $5 frag tank gets me every time, it's buy 5 get 1 free too! They really had some goodies tonight lol. It's often a lot of shrooms and zoas (which they had too), but I did get an adorable little fungia in the $15 section, so I'm not a total cheapo hahaha.

I'd be happy with any $5 frags lol :-)

It definitely looks similar, hopefully it will be open more tomorrow. I'm just glad I actually got a $5 cyphastrea lol. I've bought 3 closed up frags now that "could" have been cyphastrea, up until now they were not haha. You should tell your LFS how well a $5 frag tank would do. I've spent hundreds at this store over the years and 98% of it was from the $5 frag tank haha.

The polyps do look a little long On that one looking at it

Does the last one have fuzz coming out of the ridges like hydnophora?

Yes it does, but I have a hydnophora and it doesn't look anything like it, although my hydnophora still looks like poo from shipping lol

Thanks a lot. $5.00 frags! Road trip to Pittsburgh. Give them time, I have one, and waited a month for everything to come out. When you pay $25.00, you wait. Just spent a load with AQUASD, and can't wait to get the new corals. Check them out, but I didn't see anything under $10.00.

I'll give you the Pittsburgh lfs tour if you do lol. Which one do you have? Aquasd definitely has some nice stuff:)

All the lfs around me upped their 10 dollar frags to 15 :/

That last pic looks like Pavona.
That's lame! Hopefully they uped the size and or quality too! I think you are right, it's looking a bit more fuzzy today. I would prefer a pavona over another hydno, I'm considering giving the one I have to my SIL anyway haha.

Haha yeah it would have, it was free either way. My SIL were trying to decide on the 6th coral and agreed it was probably lepto from the pattern all closed up. It was between this and some zoas I already have, so I'm pleased since it was free lol. If they didn't have the buy 5 get 1 free I probably only would have left with 4 frags for myself. She got a pretty sweet orange octo for $25. That's a huge jump in price! I would make some complaints hahaha. Maybe boycott them for a while and see if the lose in sales makes them change it back:D
