I found myself a project

We just moved and are getting settled into our new home and wanted a nice frag system in the basement. Found these and picked them up today. Will have to put a little elbow grease but just wanted to share my find! Anybody have suggestions on cleaning? Figured I would soak in citric acid and see how that works.

Yup there made there just 50 gallon low boy aquariums.

Actually have a few of them laying around! It will take all the coralline off?

I would set it all up with pumps and everything but lights, fill it up with RODI and dump in a bunch of citric acid and run it overnight. I'd mix heavy, like the whole bag. Everything, including coralline, will wipe off super easy. Refill with water and run to rinse. Take a few gallons of water out and replace. Drain completely, let dry. It will be as good as new and takes minimum elbow grease.

That’s what I’ve done in the past but the thing is I don’t have a sump for it yet I will be tying it into a large system once I get it rolling I plan on redoing most of the plumbing so my thought was to just put a couple caps on the end of the return and overflow plumbing and fill her up dump a bunch of citric acid in it and run some powered heads on it. I'm a little nervous about the stand. The top tank is not supported correctly. The boards that go around the bottom edge need to go straight down to the ground. The way it is set up, the screws or nails are what's supporting it and the plywood is not supporting the edges.

I may have to redo the stand a bit I wonder if I should build out from the back a bit and have the back tank shifted back.

I could take the top tank down and just build another small stand for it instead of having it above I have plenty of room.

I am thinking about building a top for my stand using a butcher block. Have it stick out making a shelf in front and on the sides and finish it with the stuff you pour on bar tops. Build a backstop of some sort that would allow the tank to then sit inside of the finish.

A possible solution is something like these shelves. Replace the pressed boards and it could work. I've thought about it before. I am sure someone on this site has the answer.

Be careful to check the weight capacity per shelf before you jump in on one of these. There are some heavy duty ones but also some low grade made in china rustbuckets.

I agree. This was just a quick reference. I think it could work for a multi tank set up. When I build my house in a few years, I will need a setup with several tanks to QT. Lots of time to figure it all out.

Thank you sir! It’s taken some time but we are moving forward and can start planning new tank!
