Question, How many of you with vermitids feed your coral? If you are, you are feeding the vermitids more than the coral. Stop feeding the corals, and feed your fish dried particle foods that are .5-1mm so the vermitids starve.

I have one that looks just like the 3W Thor in the eBay link above. I don't see it in that description, but one of the key things that made me decide on the one I got was that it could run nonstop without having to stop for cooling. Some don't have an "Unlimited Duty Cycle" and have to be shut off after a minute of use or something. I got mine from Big Lasers. It was a lot more expensive. If the eBay one is the same thing, it's a great deal. I use these batteries - https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B06X9G39TV/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Edit: The eBay one looks similar and says 3W, but in the description below it says it is <3W and is a low power version.

GUYS!!!! lasers are excellent tools for our hobby but you are all forgetting something critical. You can blind a fish instantly if he looks at the beam. A blind fish is basically a soon to be dead fish.

You really need a helper also with safety glasses on to keep the fish away from the laser with a baster or another flashlight. I’d suggest doing it during the day when your lights are on full tilt. Doing it at night is cruel. Fish are attracted to twinkly lights.

Seriously. You can do a lot of damage with a 3mW laser.

This may be true, have you or do you know of anyone who has actually hurt a fish with one of these? I have heard these comments before but non from experience.

I feed my corals bi-weekly and have my laser nearby to zap any new vermitids that pop up.

I 100% agree with this. I have been doing this for several years but have never done any harm to a fish. You must be cautious and if a fish is near the beam immediately shut it off!

I'll keep everyone updated!

I'm finding the 5w lazer to be the same price as the 3w but within the USA for shipping. I want it faster and not wait a month. I can't have these snails spread more.

I'm going with the 5w lazer. I hope my fish don't swim into it but I dont think it will cut them in half but maybe can hurt them. Ill do it when they are sleeping and have someone watch out for them while I shoot my beam of light! Maybe the 5w will be faster?
Can you post a link to the one you are thinking of? I highly recommend checking the duty cycle if you didn't. At least for me trying to know how many seconds I've had it on and then waiting twice that to restart it was a pain in the rear with the first one I had. The one I have now is unlimited, and I've used it straight on until the batteries died with no damage. For some people that might not matter at all, but for me it does.

This looks like the one I have and is unlimited. Can ship from the US for $10 more, making it $160. https://www.bestlaserpointers.com/3...er-adjustable-focus-5-lens.html?ref=shortDesc

It’s now sold out . There are others like it. The only thing I see if they run for about 30 seconds and you have to cool it down. I can see that being an issue at first to kill most of them but after that not a problem.

I just don’t know if 5w is to strong or maybe it would be better.

I had an infestation of vermetid snails, to the point they grew through encrusting montipora. I put 10 emerald crabs in a 120 and after about a month all of the vermetid snails were gone.

Go with the 3w which is more than enough. I think 5w is way overkill and hazardous to your health as well as the fish health.

I think with a 5 watt the duty cycle might not be as big of a deal if you can really blast it quicker and then move on to the next thing. A good charger helps make this work, especially if you get extra batteries, because you may find you want to just work the whole tank over and need to go through several batteries per session to be able to do that. I've got a 10' long tank, so I have a lot of real estate to cover. I got this charger and it can let you know the actual capacity of the batteries. I tried several different kinds of batteries and they are not all created equal. Most are below the stated capacity, some way below. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07428G1G2/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I found the red ones I linked to previously work the best, but they are slightly shorter than some other ones and I needed to add a washer between them to make it work better. Even with the hassle of adding the washer, they work so much better than the other two brands I have it's worth it. Happy frying!

Do your eyes a favor and invest in a good pair of glasses when using these lasers. Go to You tube and watch the videos on the comparison of the different glasses. I bought a good set for around $50.00. The glasses that come with most of these lasers are junk.
