I just dropped my salinity..

I just added 3 gallons RODI to a 20 gallon system with fish and inverts. It dropped the salinity from 1.0262 to 1.0237.
How bad is it for my inhabitants ?

2x green banded gobies
1x possum wrasse,
2x yasha goby
1x rainsfords goby

1x candy cane pistol shirmp
1x kukenthalls shrimp

8x aiptasia..
 
It will take about 140 grams of salt to bring 1 gallon back to 1.0262.
Should i add like 300 grams and then add that back?
If you calculates it needs 140g why would you add 300?

My way is very simple, take a kitchen pitcher. Or pitcher from a blender.

Scoop the water out of the tank. Add like 4 tablespoons of salt and stir until dissolved. Then add that back in the tank. Let the powerhead blow it around for 15 min to circulate then test the tank salinity.

Repeat a few times until you get to 1.026

Sorry, I was just figuring out how long it would take. I'm using hamzas reef calculator to guess. Adding the one gallon at 1.026 will take about 22 exchanges so I was raising the salinity more in the gallon to take less time.

I did about 4 tablespoons to the first one and will see what it actually raises.

Don’t worry this is an easy fix.

Basically remove a pitcher of low salinity water, then we up that a bit to make it high salinity, then add tot he tank like a concentrate. Let the lower heads disperse it and see how much it goes up.

Then you can tweak your formula on the next pitcher and fine tune back to 1.026.

If you end up slightly high, just take some tank water out and replace with rodi
 
Why not just go up slowly and replace evaporated water with salt water?

Any damage to organisms from the rapid salinity change is done by now. Raising it back fast is its own risk and is not a need.
 
^^^^^ what Randy says. I’ve done this trick and it works great. I unhook my reservoir. (I have a spare Tunze pump for this to make it easier as there are multiple reasons a sump could see an influx of RODI.). I simply have my ATO use 1.026 water to replace evap until the salinity is where I want it. Super easy. And, no fears of spikes or mixing salt in the tank. But everyone’s mileage varies.

You can safely drop salinity without ill effects . . Just raise it SLOWLY
