Those rocks are not going anywhere so it is indeed done underwater

It is "D-D aquascape aquarium expoy". I flatten it out after mixing and gently lay it over the rock, leave it for 24 hours to get hard so that it now has the basic shape of the underlying rockscape that it lays on. I then take the chalice frag and glue it with "zap" to the epoxy so that as it grows out it looks like it is growing on the rock. Eventually it covers all the epoxy but then you have to keep lifting the chalice off the rock to make sure it does not grow into the rockscape. I thought that way if I ever fragged my chalices, I could remove them from the tank. Two things I discovered, 1.) I like my chalices and dont want to trim them and 2.) chalices when they get the chance like to adhere to rockscape. I like chalices growing on rockscape and prefer that to laying on the sand (plus my wrasses like to flip anything on the sand)[h=1][/h]

Hate to say it, but I never paid attention so probably not. At the worse, not for very long.

If you play with the material in your tank while it is setting, there is a weird slime like cloud that comes off it. I try to limit how much I fool with it while it is setting in the tank and I have a large water volume (180 gallon display) so a 2"x2" patch is not a big deal. In other words, put it where you want it, gently press it onto the rock to conform it to the rocks shape and then don't keep playing with it. You might want to practice with a small piece of removable rock so you don't squish the expoy into the rock and have it there for evermore. This was designed to help lock into rock but like everything else--if you want it to attach to the rock for gluing then it won't but if you just want to lay it on top, odds are it very well may stick for ever.

Everything you place in your tank including your hands does have an impact one way or another.

@watchguy....old school is the best school. There is a reason why some chalices stand the test of time...they have been proven to grow and do well in aquariums. Not all new chalices have proven that and you hear of names come and go.

I got it about a year ago as a frag from coral gazers but I don't think they have a mother colony. My impression is that it was all chopped up and sold but not positive

Flattered by the idea but I'm not ready to start naming corals. The best I could come up with would be the "no-namer chalice"
